Saddle Up for Essen Spiel: A First Look at Western Legends Stories!

Essen Spiel is right around the corner, and Kolossal Games is bringing something special to the Independent Publishers Alliance (IPA) booth this year: the physical debut of Western Legends Stories!

What is Western Legends Stories?

Conceived by French designer Hervé Lemaître, Western Legends Stories is a narrative-driven sandbox board game set in 19th-century America[cite: 1, 4]. Building on the world of the original Western Legends, Stories introduces a deeper layer of immersion where your choices dynamically impact the frontier around you.

Players step into the boots of pioneers, adventurers, and rogues seeking to earn Legendary Points (LP) and become the ultimate legend of the West. Whether you choose to enforce order as a marshal, construct frontier towns, test your luck as a gambler, mine for gold, or carve out a infamous path as an outlaw, every trail is open to you.

Key mechanics include:

• The Story System: Multi-episode adventures guided by branching Story card decks that introduce choices, events, and evolving objectives[cite: 1, 4].

• Expanding Modular Map: Puzzle-like map sections that lock together and expand as your narrative journey unfolds[cite: 1, 4].

• A Living Frontier: An Exploration Notebook that catalogs locations, town notices, and reactive Personalities, Bandits, and wildlife across the territory[cite: 1, 4].

What to Expect at the IPA Booth

Because backer fulfillment for Western Legends Stories is actively underway, our absolute priority is ensuring our Kickstarter supporters receive their rewards first. Because of this, we will only have a very limited quantity of copies available for purchase at the booth during the show.

However, Essen Spiel marks the first time full physical production copies of the game will be on display! Attendees will be able to inspect the finalized components, custom punchboards, detailed miniatures, and full game setup in person.

If you aren't able to grab one of the limited stock copies at the show, don't worry—Western Legends Stories will be available for full retail sale shortly after backer fulfillment is officially completed.

Be sure to stop by the IPA booth during the convention to check out the game in person and chat with the team!
